New Design Trend 2010: Man Caves vs. Mom Caves

We have all heard of the man cave and most of us can get a clear get a visual on that one. We imagine black leather furniture, sleek, chrome, glass and lots of electronics, gizmos and games. When men want to escape to their lairs they are looking for stimuli to take their mind off their woes. Women, on the other hand, look for a quiet retreat; a small nook or corner they can call their own; one where they can read, knit or create some handicrafts. Women tend to seek a place of reflection; of introspection. Women want to be alone with their thoughts while men want to have room for all of the guys to hang out with them and watch the game on their 1,000" TV or to play foosball.

With so many women working out of the home making as much or more than their partners, women are feeling empowered and deserving of a spot in the home they can call their own, away from the hustle and bustle of the kitchen and shared family spaces.
